Young Athlete Program
Each year more than 3.5 million children in this country under age 15 are treated for sports injuries. Many young athletes are now competing in sports year round and injuries such as overuse injuries to sprains and strains are now on the rise. When having a good base of fitness, avoiding overtraining and getting adequate rest are not enough, how can you help your young athlete enjoy the joys of sports, and avoid the agonizing painful injuries? In some cases they can be injuries that can last throughout their young adulthood.
Movement Discoveries Young Athlete Program can provide guidance in preventing injuries in your young athlete. We offer screenings that can help identify risk factors, such as incorrect body mechanics, inadequate conditioning, etc. to prevent injuries before they occur. Some of the common childhood sports injuries are sprains (injury to a ligament like stretch or tear) and strains (injury to a muscle or tendon), growth plate (injury to the area of developing tissues at the end of the long bones in growing children), and repetitive motion injuries (painful injuries like stress fractures and tendonitis). The program will so offer classes on strength training on specific sports.
When an injury occurs, the program can provide thorough evaluation and assessment with emphasis on examining susceptibility to risk factors, rehabilitation and prevention of further injuries. Our staff Physical Therapists can provide:
Sport specific biomechanical assessment and training
Postural training
Orthotic Fitting
Strengthening and Flexibility Exercises
Balance and Coordination Activities
Proprioception Training
Endurance Training
Education regarding appropriate return to sport
Injury prevention program
Warm up / cool down strategies
