Mary Ann Hauck is the co-owner and co-founder of Movement Discoveries that brought the first Intensive Physical Therapy Program to Northern California. Mary Ann is a parent of a child with cerebral palsy who is the inspiration behind the establishment of the center in 2004. Prior to having her daughter and operating Movement Discoveries, Mary Ann spent many years working in the telecommunications and financial industries. She has a BS in Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco. Today, Mary Ann’s passion is developing meaningful programs for children with special needs and takes pride and joy seeing children in the program achieve skills they have never had before.
Mary Ann loves going to the movies whenever she can find a time to escape the daily demands of her work at Movement Discoveries and caring for her daughter.
Carrie Southgate, PT, DPT, received her Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy at the University of St. Augustine in Florida in 2002. Her advanced coursework included Advance Neurological exam – evaluation and treatment with emphasis in pediatrics, occupational therapy and pediatrics, advanced spinal exam – evaluation and treatment; and pharmacology. She has been with Movement Discoveries since May 2006. Prior to joining MD she worked as a Director of Rehabilitation and a Lead Physical Therapist for pediatric clinics. Carrie has extensive experience treating children with neurologic impairments, genetic abnormalities, orthopedic injuries, and traumatic brain damage. She has also worked at the Dolphin Human Therapy in Florida assisting Physical Therapists during treatment sessions involving interactions between children with special needs and dolphins.
Carrie has completed continuing education courses in NDT and sensory integration courses for pediatrics. Carrie is also certified in the TheraSuit Method of pediatric intensive physical therapy. In her spare time, Carrie enjoys travel and skiing.
Gina Calloni, MPT, graduated with a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from California State University, Long Beach. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, with a minor in Health, from California State University, Chico. Gina has always had dedication, love, and passion for children. During undergraduate studies, Gina lead children's summer sport camps and volunteered with special needs children programs in Chico, CA. In order to gain more exposure to pediatric therapy, Gina worked as an aide for Movement Discoveries and also for an early development clinic in Fountain Valley, CA providing her background with children diagnosed with autism, developmental delays, and Down's syndrome.
Gina has worked with all of the clinic-based programs at Movement Discoveries including: Gym, Intensives, School Therapy, and Early Intervention. She eagerly continues to develop new skills—Gina recently took continuing education courses in multiple areas including NDT and manual therapy, pediatric kinesiotaping, the hypotonic child, and interventions in neonatal care. She is also familiar with using/recommending Cascade braces, as well as Theratogs.
When away from the clinic, Gina enjoys waterskiing, camping, following the 49ers/Giants/Sharks, playing softball, and spending time with family and friends.
Adam Sternak, PTLA is the Program Coordinator of our Fitness Program for Special Populations. He is a physical therapist from Poland and works at Movement Discoveries under its Clinical Internship program for foreign professionals. He obtained his Physical Therapy degree in Poland in 2005 and has interned and worked there in neurological rehabilitation center serving children with cerebral palsy, stroke patients, and spinal cord injury patients. He serves as trainer at the center on the pediatric intensive physical therapy approach and other various therapy techniques. His training background includes certification in Manual Therapy – McKenzie approach, Cyriax concept, McMuray concept and Kaltenborn-Evjenth. He also completed a course in scoliosis treatment in the Lenerth Schroth approach. Adam has also completed a course in NDT Bobath for Stroke Patients. The most recent courses he has completed are PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) and the Baby NDT Treatment Approach. Adam has passed the California Physical Therapy Board licensing exam and is now a PTLA. He began work at Movement Discoveries in the summer of 2004, since then he has become a favorite therapist of our young patients, has a natural talent when working with children and has great rapport with families. Besides participating in national ethnic dance competitions, Adam enjoys travel and outdoor activities, such as snowboarding, and hiking in his spare time.
Hannah Mendes - MS CCC-SLP, recently joined Movement Discoveries in July 2010. She is heading our Specialized Language Program and is a part of out Early Intervention Program. She graduated in 2005 from the University of Hawaii with a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology and worked for 3 ½ years with elementary school children in Hawaii before relocating to California. In Los Angeles, she worked for a privately based speech therapy clinic as well as a nonprofit day school program for children with special needs. She has experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, learning disabilities, ADHD, mental retardation, Down Syndrome, stuttering, apraxia of speech and emotional problems.
Jen Tang, BS is currently a one-on-one aide with one of our patients. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a double minor in Human Development and Communications and is currently looking to apply for a Masters program in Occupational Therapy. She utilizes her organizational and creative skills and previous experience in working with children to find different ideas and activities on a daily basis. Aside from studying and taking classes, she enjoys traveling to new places, outdoor activities, watching football and spending time with her family and friends.
